Eligibility for Awards

This recognition program is designed to highlight Virginia government entities that are using IT to improve citizen service and/or efficiency in service delivery. Therefore, all entries must be submitted by a recognized Virginia public body. Private sector organizations may assist in the development of an application for a government partner but will not be officially recognized in the awards ceremony. The application must be made by and for a Virginia government entity.

Submissions should focus on improvements in the business of government and should go well beyond a description of a private sector solution. The focus should be on the government entity's management of a solution to its identified business need.

Entries should portray projects that are implemented - i.e. actively providing service to the target audience. If the submitted project contains subsequent phases, indicate those within the narrative but focus on the measured success of the initial phase.

Public bodies are invited to submit multiple projects, but only one entry per category will be accepted from a governmental entity (including different divisions of the same sponsoring government). The same program should not be submitted in more than one category. Collaborative applications representing partnerships between governmental entities are strongly encouraged.

Agencies and divisions of the Technology Secretariat are not eligible to apply. Projects which have received prior Governor's Technology Awards are not eligible for this year's competition.

Format: Submissions should include an Executive Summary (limit: 400 words), and an entry that follows the criteria listed. Nominations must be kept to three (3) pages or fewer, not including the Executive Summary. Winning Executive Summaries will be posted to various Web sites.

Deadline and Submission: All entries must be received via the online submission form by August 23, 2011. Hard copies of materials are not accepted.
